1851 N-8 R3- MS63. Choice highly lustrous light bluish steel brown with 5% of the original mint red remaining on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers the surfaces, even the highest points of the devices. Just a few trivial marks from flawless. These include a tiny nick on the rim at star 5, another well hidden in the hair under star 7, and a speck of carbon on the bottom of the T in UNITED. LDS, die state b. The die line over ME is gone but the lump on the throat is clear. Tied for CC#2 honors for the variety but finest of the late state. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS66BN (NGC label included). Estimated Value $500-UP. Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions 8/19/95:598-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:906, The Northwest Collection. Categories: Test Category 7
